Living History Project

Starting Points:

1) Runkle Library Online Resources & Catalog
  • Go To: Biography Resource Center

2) Obituaries (if your person is not alive)
  • Once you have a date of death, along with an accurate full name, you can look for actual obituaries in online newspaper archives.

  • New York Times Archives
  • Archives from 1851 - 1922 AND 1987-present are free of charge. Everything in between (1923 to 1986) you have to pay for, for some odd reason.

  • Google News
  • Used the advanced search feature to make sure you zero in on the exact dates for the obituary you're looking for.

  • Google - "Firstname Lastname Obituary"
